Your identification papers > Switzerland : Your employer will have, without a doubt, taken all the necessary steps with the " Office Cantonal de la Population" and you will be issued your " Livret pour Etrangers ", a small booklet that you must carry with you at all times along with your passport. This is the proof that you are officially authorised to live in Switzerland. It is recommended to register at your consulate. It can be useful (information, voting, contacts) and it will allow you, if necessary, to quickly deal with administrative issues like obtaining a new passport, declaring a child's birth… Over and above this period you must apply for a " Carte de Séjour " stating " Communauté Européenne " or " Espace Économiques Européen ". You will be issued with one lasting 10 years.
